Ipeco receives King’s Award for Promoting Opportunity

Last updated on

Ipeco Holdings Limited, based in Southend-on-Sea, has been honoured with a King’s Awards for Enterprise for its work to enhance the life opportunities of others.

Today’s announcement of the King’s Award for Enterprise recognised a total of 252 organisations nationally, with Ipeco being one of the standout companies acknowledged for their excellence in the Promoting Opportunity category alongside just seven others.

The King’s Awards recognises those who play a role in creating an inclusive and compassionate society by supporting socially disadvantaged individuals to develop their skills and chances of finding work.

Employing over 850 people, Ipeco was founded in 1960 and is the world’s leading manufacturer of commercial pilot seating. It is now in its third generation of family ownership with facilities in the UK, USA, Germany, Singapore, and China.

The company’s engineering training scheme, which is entirely self-funded, aims to support young people in realising their full potential through stable employment, recognised qualifications, and avenues for career development. It is inclusive of all young individuals, including those encountering disadvantages. As of now, 78 participants are enrolled in the programme at Ipeco, with the chance to pursue different roles upon successful completion. Over time, many individuals have advanced to senior positions, overseeing the business operations, and mentoring the next generation of employees.

Chief Executive Officer, Steve Johnson said: “Receiving the Kings’ Award for Enterprise in the Promoting Opportunity is the ultimate accolade. It highlights our dedication to creating opportunities for young people, helping them unlock their potential and pursue a fulfilling career. We take great pride in the progress of our young people and owe much of our success to those who have joined us through this scheme.”

The King’s Awards for Enterprise, previously known as The Queen’s Awards for Enterprise, were renamed last year to reflect His Majesty The King’s desire to continue the legacy of HM Queen Elizabeth II by recognising outstanding UK businesses. The Award programme, now in its 58th year, is the most prestigious business award in the country, with successful businesses able to use the esteemed King’s Awards Emblem for the next five years.

Applications for King’s Awards for Enterprise 2025 open on His Majesty The King’s Coronation, 6th May 2024 For more information, visit.
